I woke up this morning with a dull pain in my throat and a headache. Right before I was to get out of bed, my husband rolled over and grumbled, “I feel horrible.” As Joshua was calling in to work I walked into the other room to get the kids up. Guess what? 2 more Goolsbys down!
It’s never fun being sick, especially when your babies aren’t feeling like their playful selves. I had an over load of tasks on my “to-do” list and cleaning schedule I was head-strong on completely knocking out today. Needless to say that didn’t happen.
I decided it was time to rest today. Take a breath. Take in this sweet moment we rarely get to relax together as a family.
My husband suggested reading our devotional together, even with the kids. We all sat down in front of daddy and listened. After, we discussed the topic together. The rest of the day we spent taking naps, eating breakfast and lunch together, also cuddling. It has been a refreshing day. Though I haven’t accomplished my entire checklist, I feel much more rejuvenated and appreciative of having my sweet family with me today!
I write this to remind you that, Yes, we need a break at times. There will always be laundry and dishes. You will have checklists that are rarely completed. But don’t ever forget to take time for yourselves. It took us being sick to accomplish today, but in reality we should have “family lounge days” on a regular basis. It’s beneficial to relax and recharge with the ones you love the most. So I challenge you to make it a goal to take one day a month, if that is impossible because of scheduling, than at least a few hours to just relax and enjoy each other without worrying about chores, errands, or work. I promise you will not regret it.
From love, Christa.
